Abstract

The abdominal aortic aneurysm is defined as a dilation equal to or greater than 3 cm. in the transverse or anteroposterior diameter comprising the three layers of the arterial wall. The abdominal aortic aneurysms are found in 2-4% of the population over 50 years , with mean age at diagnosis of 65-70 years and higher prevalence in men. It are associated with coronary disease, peripheral vascular disease and family history of aneurysms. Depending of the imaging characteristics of the aneurysm, the management is surgical or endovascular. That is why in daily practice the radiologist should know and describe in a right way the aneurysms in the pretreatment tomography and recognize the most common complications posterior to the endovascular management, because some of those require an urgent reintervention.
