Resumen

El aneurisma de la aorta abdominal se define como una dilatación igual o mayor de 3 cm. en el diametro transverso o anteroposterior, que comprende las tres capas de la pared arterial. Los aneurismas de la aorta abdominal se encuentran en el 2 al 4% de la población mayor de 50 años, con edad media en el momento del diagnóstico de 65 a 70 años y mayor prevalencia en hombres. Se asocian a enfermedad coronaria, enfermedad vascular periférica y a historia familiar de aneurismas. Dependiendo, entre otros criterios, de las características imagenológicas del aneurisma, se trata de forma quirúrgica abierta o endovascular. Es por ello que en la práctica diaria el radiólogo debe conocer y describir en forma adecuada los aneurismas en la tomografía previa al tratamiento y además reconocer las complicaciones más frecuentes una vez han recibido manejo con endoprótesis, ya que algunas de ellas requieren reintervención urgente.
