Resumen
Introducción: Esta es una revisión bibliográfica que pretende mostrar que existe un vacío del conocimiento en cuanto al manejo no farmacológico de los síntomas asociados al cáncer, existiendo en la evidencia suficientes recomendaciones para el uso de psicoterapia como parte de este manejo. Materiales y métodos: se realizó una revisión sistemática de la literatura de 25 artículos con nivel de evidencia de I a III de los últimos 5 años. Resultados: se encontró que la psicoterapia con técnicas como la hipnosis, la relajación muscular progresiva, la visualización, la re-estructuración de ideas y pensamientos, la educación, la meditación, el yoga, las terapias grupales colaborativas, entre otras, ayudan a establecer mejores herramientas de afrontamiento de la enfermedad y disminuye el distrés emocional, mejorando síntomas como el dolor neuropático y crónico, las náuseas y el vómito asociados a la quimioterapia, la ansiedad asociada a disnea e insomnio. Como hallazgo asociado se encontró que sirve al manejo de agotamiento asociado al cáncer produciendo alivio. Conclusión: hay evidencia que recomienda el uso de intervenciones psicoterapéuticas como manejo coadyuvante de síntomas asociados al cáncer.
