Abstract

The medical profession requires, for the excellence of their practice, standards, rules and regulations, contained in the codes of medical ethics and other instances of deontological character, such as medical ethics tribunals. The medical ethics establishes a set of positive rules that establish the acceptable limits of the profession. However, in the current context of social dynamics, where the prominence given to personal autonomy conflicts with the welfare of the medical act itself, it is imperative to complement the deontological approach with other perspectives such as virtue ethics, the bioethics committees (a level of care and research) and the use of specific methodologies for the analysis and accompaniment of the value conflicts that arise in the field of physician-patient relationship.
