Brief history of the vitamins

Abstract

The discovery, denomination, synthesis and activity of vitamins are a fascinating chapter of the recent history of medicine that has only a century. The word vitamin was introduced by the biochemist Casimir Funk. It ´s composed by “vita” life and “amine” substance containing ammoniac. All the vitamins we know today were discovered and artificially synthesized from 1912 to 1940 to be given to human beings.
