Abstract

Due to the high incidence and prevalence of the low back chronic pain and multiple side effects due to drugs used in this disease, an increase in use of other therapeutic alternatives as glucosamine have been seen Glucosamine is used more frequently, nonetheless the main question is if it is effective or not for reduction of symptomatology in this disease. In the next article we present a short review and analysis current literature, to give in a critical way and a structured vision of the efficacy of this drug for chronic low back pain. Two systematic reviews were found, and they included four randomized clinical trials. Two of them with good quality and with low risk of bias. Two studies reported that there was no difference between the use of glucosamine vs placebo for chronic low back pain secondary to osteoarthrosis. The other two, did not have good quality nor external validity, both, necessary elements to justify the use of glucosamine. There is no scientific evidence with good quality that justify the use of glucosamine in chronic low back pain associated with osteoarthrosis.
