Resumen
Introducción: la conservación de fertilidad entre parejas con diagnóstico de infección por VIH plantea varias inquietudes. La siguiente revisión pretende brindar información útil al personal de salud en la asesoría a este grupo de pacientes. Objetivo: realizar una revisión de la literatura disponible acerca de las diferentes opciones existentes para la conservación de fertilidad y planeación de una gestación entre parejas con diagnóstico de infección por VIH. Materiales y métodos: búsqueda de la literatura disponible en las bases de datos PubMed/Medline y Embase bajo los términos: VIH, terapia antiretroviral, embarazo, fertilidad, técnicas de reproducción asistida; se incluyeron artículos publicados entre 1994 y 2012. Resultados: la evidencia disponible establece que la infección por VIH altera las tasas de fertilidad. Las diferentes técnicas de reproducción asistida para lograr una gestación han demostrado ser efectivas en la disminución del riesgo de transmisión viral. Conclusiones: las parejas serodiscordantes y seroconcordantes para infección por VIH pueden beneficiarse de la implementación de técnicas de reproducción asistida en la planeación de un embarazo, la cual dependerá de diferentes factores, incluyendo cual de los miembro de la pareja ostenta la calidad de seropositivo.
