Resumen
Los objetivos principales de este artículo son describir la anatomía de las glándulas salivares mayores, revisar la técnica, indicaciones y contraindicaciones de la sialografía convencional y realizar una actualización de las principales patologías que afectan a este aparato glandular, donde se incluyen la sialolitiasis y sialoadenitis. Así mismo, se pretende describir las nuevas modalidades diagnósticas, como sialografía por tomografía computarizada y resonancia magnética. Actualmente, la sialografía prevalece como el estudio inicial para valorar la patología obstructiva e inflamatoria de las glándulas salivares mayores. La elección de la modalidad de imagen ideal para la evaluación de la patología glandular salivar dependerá de la presentación clínica del paciente y la sospecha diagnóstica.
