Abstract
Autoimmune hepatitis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the liver that affects a group of patients that loose their immune tolerance to liver antigens. From the clinical perspective, autoimmune hepatitis may be characterized by hypergammaglobulinemia, elevated liver enzymes, the presence of antibodies, and histological changes. This review is intended to update and expand our knowledge about this disease in the pediatric population, raising the awareness of GPs, pediatricians, and pediatric gastroenterologists in order to suspect, diagnose, and administer timely treatment to prevent short and long-term complications.
