Abstract
Brief outline of the national and international history of pathological anatomy, its role in medical education, emphasizing the contributions by renowned pathologists in the area, followed by a review of the concepts on biopsy and cytology as key factors in the practice of surgical pathology. emphasis is placed in the careful management of the specimens throughout the collection, processing, reading, diagnostic, and storage process.
