Abstract

Throughout history, different methods have been used for the intracorporeal transport of illegal substances across borders between countries. Body packing was first described in 1973 and refers to the intracorporeal concealment of illegal drugs, which are ingested or placed in anatomical cavities or body orifices. The diagnosis is established based on legal profiling, a suggestive clinical history, physical examination signs, and diagnostic imaging findings. We present the case of a woman who was admitted to the emergency room at a tertiary hospital in Bogotá with suspicion of contraband intracorporeal transport. Within the diagnostic imaging studies (bilateral femur X-ray) it was shown that she was transporting the drug at the level of her thighs, for which she had to undergo surgery. It is essential to recognize this new form of illegal transportation of contraband in order to be able to suspect it and make a correct clinical approach.
